‘Beowulf’
‘Beowulf’ is one of the oldest English folk stories and this piece is a collaboration with soprano Eleanor Harvie.
For creation of the text we used excerpts adapted from translation by Benjamin Slade joint with Modern English translation by Frances B. Gummere.
Performance is constructed using chance procedure. Performer tosses a coin at percussion elements. The result of the toss dictates which part of the composition gets performed. Every toss is carefully recorded into pre-programmed channels and played-back into the sound world of the piece. Furthermore, performer has the opportunity to include their own choice of the parts at least twice during the act.
Composition is written for quadraphonic sound system and includes elements of live sampling.
