‘Atrox’ (2024) for sopranos and percussions

(How_to_be_shocking_in_5_steps.pptx)

for singers and percussion – can be turned into durational piece easily.

Instrumentation:

at least 3 singers and percussions (choose from: djembe, conga, bongo, snare, floor tom or timpani)

This particular score was performed by 3 mezzo sopranos and with the use of djembe, snare and floor tom.

This is an open graphic conceptual score, which specifies minimum number of performers. However, there can be an infinite amount of people performing it at the same time in the right space and there is no restriction in open space. The score can be enjoyed as much by amateurs as well as professional musicians.

General notes:

The score is not a PowerPoint presentation but is intended to convey creatively an artistic idea. It is also a statement against the quick-fix coaching culture, where we are told something can be achieved sooner that it can in real life. There is no set duration for this piece. Timestamps are set to approx. 60secs per page, but can be extended to any duration.

The choice of font was made to blur the clarity of the words, colours used to exaggerate the idea of highlighting. Cliché pictures carefully selected from stock libraries make an important part of aesthetic in the piece.

In the context of Requiem Moderna, Atroxtranslates to shock and is the opening piece in the requiem. As a first stage of grief Atroxmourns innocence, clarity and empathy – qualities we so desperately need in our society.
